Denise Perrier- A Diva from a Golden Age

Denise Perrier built an international reputation performing in festivals, concert halls, jazz clubs, etc. Born in Louisiana and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area she grew up among many of the greats of the jazz world. In her early twenties, Louis Armstrong heard her singing at the Fairmont Hotel and hired her for his Las Vegas review.

Ms Perrier was the featured vocalist on Jack McDuff’Grammy nominated CD, “Color Me Blue,” with George Benson and others. She co-produced a CD with renowned saxophonist Houston Person, “I Wanna be Loved.” While in Russia she recorded a live CD with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra.  She has recorded two live CD’s in the Bay Area-one at the renowned “Yoshi’s, Oakland” and the other at the historic San Francisco club, “Jazz at Pearls.” She is also featured on several Big Band compilations in the US, Japan and Russia. She has played many major cities: Paris, Venice, Milan, Helsinki, Moscow, St Petersburg (She was the first non- classical artist to be invited to sing at the Hermitage), Rio de Janeiro,Tokyo, San Miguel de Allende, Guadalajara, la Ciudad de Mexico are just a few of the major venues where she has headlined.

Lately she has concentrated on the US and has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Dizzy’s Coca-Cola where she sold out 6shows in a weekend. She has appeared at SFJazz as the headliner as well as a featured guest with other artists. In 2011and 2015 she did shows at The Hotel Nikko’s Razz Room (now Feinstein's). This show was built around Dinah Washington and Bessie Smith.

Festivals where she has been invited to perform include: New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Banjoes Jazz Festival, Stanford Jazz Festival, Jazz Festival of San Miguel de Allende, The Havana Jazz Festival and other venues in the US, Mexico and Brazil.

In November of 2016 she was the headliner at the 12th Annual Vladivostok

Jazz festival in Russia. In January of 2018 she appeared in three different venues of the Havana Jazz festival as well as appearing on the national arts television show.

Whether performing in an intimate Jazz Supper Club like “Feinstein’s,” or a large venue like New York City’s “Jazz at Lincoln Center”; whether singing a haunting melody like Antonio Carlos Jobim’s “Dindi,” or laying down a smoking version of Teddy Edwards, “Don’t Touch Me” Denise Perrier left her audiences wanting more.
